🌊 Tesla Valve Animation

← Back to Projects

The Tesla valve, invented by Nikola Tesla in 1920, is a fixed-geometry passive check valve. It allows fluid to flow easily in one direction while significantly restricting flow in the reverse direction, all without any moving parts.

How It Works

The valve uses a series of carefully designed loops and channels that create turbulence when fluid attempts to flow backwards, while offering minimal resistance in the forward direction. This elegant design makes it useful for applications requiring one-way flow without mechanical components that could fail or require maintenance.

Applications

Modern applications include microfluidics, cooling systems, and fuel delivery systems where reliability and lack of moving parts are crucial. The valve's passive nature makes it ideal for harsh environments or situations where maintenance is difficult.
